Opportunity: Joining the Veterans Employee Resource Group (ERG) Steering Committee as the Talent Acquisition & Development Lead, I quickly discovered several opportunities: better onboarding for ERG members, more visibility across the company, and enhanced recruiting efforts to bring in capable Veterans and first responders.

Action: I took a multi-faceted research approach, and

Outcome:

  • Created an onboarding document to include the ERG mission & vision, select LinkedIn Learning courses on communications (based on feedback from existing members), books and other resources recommended by Veteran leaders, internal programs and the company’s approach to career development, local volunteer opportunities, hierarchy conversions from military to corporate, etc.

  • Crafted a new approach to mentorship via bi-monthly “Joes With a Joe,” a forum for Q&A and advice

  • Distributed a brochure for HR/TA to use at events and with candidates, and discussed on-base opportunities to increase awareness of Catalent as an employer

  • Refreshed corporate social media context mix to include employee blogs (from simple grammatical checks to full ghostwriting) and curated third-party articles by and for Veterans in our employee advocacy program, increasing visibility of our employees and knowledge around supporting them

Held 1:1s with six Veterans across the organization in different roles and locations to get their feedback on what they wish they knew when joining the ERG and/or company

Conducted deep dives with the ERG Lead and corporate ERG Manager to understand pain points and goals

Reviewed the SharePoint sites of all 8 ERGs to see where Veterans were doing well, and where they could add meaningful info and stories
